CAPTAINS LOG: 30th December
WELL, here we are people….a day and a half away from another new year. What will 2019 bring to you? Will you make New Year Resolutions you will forget by the time the month is over? Will they be new or the same ones you made last year but didn’t keep? How many of them have you started a new year with more than once?
WHAT is the point of making them? Do we do it because we have grown up hearing about making them? If these resolutions are so important to your life and well-being, surely you would have made those changes already?
SO if you are that person who makes them, do you keep them and make them part of your every day life or do you keep them going and let them slide? Does that mean they were not meant to be permanent life choices or were they just too hard? Did you make them realistic choices?
A few weeks ago I completed an online workshop by Jen Wyatt in which I looked at my achievements in 2018, set goals for 2019, prioritised what was most important to me and looked at the ‘why’s’. I would encourage anybody to do the same as it gave me clarity, focus and filled me with excitement and enthusiasm for the New Year. Give me a shout if you want the link!
AS a rule, I can honestly say I have only ever made two New Year resolutions ever. The first was to keep a diary and write it in every day. Yeah, that lasted a week or 10 days. The second was always about food. Not going to lie…I may have made that one a dozen or more times so far. But that one never lasts either.
THIS year will be different to any other year. I will not be making resolutions but instead I will make a goal list for 2019. My goals have been broken down and I believe are [for once] both achievable and smart. Putting it out there folks…
1 SELF CARE: This is everything because I live my life by the timer function on my phone. I get up and make a cup of tea every weekday morning. Then I set my timer for 10 minutes where I can drink my tea and take a look at the news….then the timer goes off and that’s the end of the ‘me’ time for the rest of the day. So whilst I plan to still have my cuppa with my morning 10 minutes, my new year goal is to find time to do more for me after work. It will be ‘me time’. I will allow 30 minutes of ‘me’ time per day. This could be time to read, meditate, journal or just sit quietly to evaluate my day and breathe. To count my blessings and continue to work on my mental health.
2 BE AUTHENTIC: I will [continue] to accept myself, flaws and all, fully and accept other people for who they are. I will say what I feel at the time and no longer bottle up my feelings or emotions. I will recognise, not hide, from mistakes that I make and will try to learn from them. I will continue to be realistic in my thinking regardless of what other people think of me. I will live the best life I can and do the things that bring me happiness but not at the detriment of others.
3 STUDY MY CRAFT: I am going to write, research and write some more. I think I have the ‘study’ part under my belt. I know where I am going with it and where I want it to go and if the study involves reading well, considering I have read 431 books since July 2016, if I don’t know how to put it together now, I never will!
4 COMPLETE MY NOVEL: I will finish my book for me. I have talked about it for so long and it fills me with passion and enthusiasm so this year, it will be finished. My commitment to myself is that Book 1 will be complete by end March 2019.
5 PREPARATION: In addition to number 4, I will write the synopsis for the following two books…cos it’s a standalone trilogy ya know?!
6 SORT THE HOW’S: Find the best publishing option for me. Commit to finding a publisher and nail that bastard down and if that’s not feasible then I will self-publish.
7 EATING MINDFULNESS: I have had a good run with food but the tide has definitily turned for me. I commit to never dieting again. But instead, use good food to fuel me and to say goodbye to being a slave to sugar.
8 TIMETABLE ME: Create my timetable. I am not somebody who copes well with random but that performs better with a timetable so that I know where I am and what I am doing. That’s not to say I can’t be spontaneous but I need a routine to be able to make changes. By crating myself a timetable, I can make my daily life practical, structured and do-able without becoming overwhelmed.
9 JUST SAY NO: I have always been a ‘yes’ person; a people pleaser, if you will. I don’t want to become some petulant child but I do commit to saying no when I mean no. Over the years my ability to say no has lessened as I have felt that I am caught in a place I don’t want to be in. But that stops. If I say yes to something it will be because I WANT to say yes. I will no longer keep silent for a quiet life or to keep the peace.
AND that’s it. These are not resolutions but promises to myself. For myself. They say that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. So just like Christmas dinner; it’s all in the planning. And I am ready. Ready to embrace the wonderful opportunities, happiness and fun that I know will come in 2019. If you want to make resolutions, you go for it. If you want to ‘post’ them, do it. The people who say ‘oh here we go’ whenever we try to make changes to our lives can do one. You don’t need anybody’s approval but you must do it for yourself. No other opinion matters. You will soon find out who stands behind you, rooting for success and those who talk a good game but are the first in line to criticise.
TO you all; I wish you a wonderful 2019 and for you to live your best year yet. Be strong and be you. You are all beautiful, worthy and so much more than you give yourself credit for.
THANK you for reading my blogs, I am truly grateful for the time you gave up to do so. To those who have thrown 100% of their love and support behind me; you all rock and I love you.
AND finally a side note. It will be totally separate from my blog and writing, but watch out YouTube the ultimate Vlog is coming…just for shits and giggles…its going to be fabULOUS…or just moronic!
BIG SNOGS
